German Shepherds - Pictures - Use
For a well-adjusted German Shepherd, it should be socialized at an early age with other people and pets. German Shepherds have a strong protective instinct, but aggression and attacks on people are mainly due to poor breeding and training. The German Shepherd is well known for its work as a police dog, search and rescue dog and as a guide dog. The German Shepherd has tremendous courage and loyalty. It is highly intelligent and easily trained. They have a strong protective instinct. German Shepherds are used in Schutzhund, Police Service, Bomb detection, Narcotics detection, Search and Rescue, Security and Personal Protection. These dogs can also be the best companion dogs about which you only can dream.
During the late 1800s the German army tailored the German Shepherd for their military. Today the German Shepherd is used primarily as a companion, guide, and search and rescue dog. The German Shepherd originated in Germany, and is believed to date back to as early as the 7th century. Rittmeister von Stephanitz was instrumental in developing the German Shepherd using longhaired, shorthaired, wire-haired shepherds and the mountain sheepdog of Germany.
A well-bred and well-trained dog is generally very good with other pets and people, including children, though young ones should be watched while with the dog. German Shepherds serve as excellent companions and work dogs and also as obedience or show dogs.
